This project is a collaborative effort between the Department of Archaeology at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and the Centre for War Studies & Conflict Archaeology at the University of Glasgow. It focuses on documenting and analyzing the impact of war on the transformation of material culture and social spaces in Ukraine. By creating a comprehensive database of military and civilian war memorials in the Kyiv region and conducting interviews with volunteers, the study aims to explore how trauma-related objects and spaces are reused in response to the war. The methodology includes visual exploration and contextual description of sites of destruction and war memorials, with a primary focus on spontaneous civilian memorials. It also involves developing a specialized questionnaire and methodology for collecting personal testimonies to address both the materiality of war and the evolving memory of those affected by it.
