Landscapes of Emergency: Cartography. Materialities. Urban reconfigurations.

After the full-scale Russian invasion, Ukraine has experienced a profound and unsettling transformation of its territorial landscape. This ongoing conflict has had far-reaching consequences, resonating on a global scale in our increasingly interconnected world. These emergency conditions and the pervasive sense of uncertainty have had a ripple effect, manifesting as economic and energy crises, environmental damage, mass displacement of population, disruptions in the global food supply chain, and nuclear threats.
In response, my research focuses on mapping and archiving the material histories of conflict-affected sites. It gives a broader picture of the unfolding events in Ukraine, which partly remains a “terra incognita” for the international audience. The project will use critical cartography and archival work to explore the spatial situations that have developed due to the emergency, contributing to a deeper understanding of the war’s impact on Ukraine’s landscape.
