I was caught by the news that Russia attacked Ukraine while in Lviv, making my way to the Carpathians. I was going to help my colleagues prepare for the opening of the Paraska Plytka-Horytsvit Museum in Kryvorivnia village. I went there, spending the whole day on the road reading the news. When there was no internet connection any more, I looked out of the bus window at the peaceful mountains, but in fact I continued seeing explosions in the cities of Ukraine, in my city.
That's what I started drawing, making one drawing for each day.
In my war-time series Double Exposure, I depict an overlapping of two accounts: the scenes I witness while navigating relatively safe routes in and out of the country; and the traumatic news reports from places of belonging in Ukraine. Sometimes I leave only one layer of the image when the war comes close enough to me personally.
