Marked Words: An Eccentric Dictionary of War

The proposed project explores the changing sense of temporality, mortality, and responsibility, reflecting on the diverse private and communal experiences of living in a world that undergoes extreme change due to a disruptive event. Part authorial, part curatorial, the project aims to recreate the mood, tone, and valence of the subjectively salient context within which the poet attempts to make sense of a changing reality. Drawing on sources from social media, the news, stories from witnesses, and recorded oral histories, some of which the author will collect and edit herself, it tells the story of an intersubjective experience of unfolding events that draw in the whole community, forming a basis for solidarity, resilience, and radical hope. Aimed at amplifying diverse perspectives and voices, the project lends itself to being translated into a series of spoken word performances, exploring the connection between language, emotions, and political agency.
