Fixing the War

Fixing the War is a feature documentary following Ukrainians who due to economic necessity, idealism, or chance—work as so-called fixers for war correspondents. The job of a fixer requires many skills, from interpreting and driving to managing ethical issues: Fixers ultimately translate the war experience to the journalists and the global audiences of their outlets. We will trace the lives and work of fixers over several years as the news cycle of the Russian war on Ukraine inevitably changes from oversaturation to fatigue.

With this film, we wish to explore war reporting, but from the unique point of view of fixers, local people who are indispensable yet invisible in the process. In an era of fake news and the undermining of the very concept of truth, we are offering a reflection on testifying from the war zone.
