The Flow of War

The documentary short film The Flow of War elucidates the events of wartime through the prism of the water situation in different regions of Ukraine. Beginning with the village of Dymir, which was flooded to stop the occupiers, and looking across the whole country to cities located near the front lines that are suffering from water shortages. The image of water is used to show not only the everyday situation, but also people’s readiness to sacrifice comfort for the sake of victory.
The film has two aspects. The first is the preciousness of water, without which a person cannot survive. The second is, on the one hand, the contrast between life in different regions of Ukraine during wartime, and on the other hand, the unity of all the people of Ukraine, who refuse to be cowed even when living under horrifying conditions, who come to one another’s aid, who defend their freedom at the front.
