The Experience of Forced Migration of Ukrainian Youth in Vernacular Photography

The project aims to identify through vernacular photography the Ukrainian youth’s ways of adaptation, integration and settling in Polish society. The purpose of the research project is a kind of reaction to the current situation. The project’s focus is on the migration experience of a particular group, namely, Ukrainian youth (aged 16-24). Young Ukrainians are one of the most sensitive groups in the process of forced migration, living in difficult social and cultural conditions: many of them continue their online education in Ukrainian and local schools or universities, and must endure feelings of temporality and homesickness, as well as missing friends, family and the daily routines they are used to. The work takes a particular interest in visual descriptions of young people’s experiences of migration related to everyday life in unfamiliar social-cultural contexts. The research project will be based on a participatory and visual art (photography) approach.
