Seasonal Work

This project is the culmination of research on handmade contributions, primarily by women, to support the military.

In the wars of the last century, there are numerous examples of women knitting, crocheting, and sewing necessary items for soldiers. Almost from the beginning of the full-scale invasion, our team became interested in this remarkable phenomenon which led us to collect such artifacts. The project consists of a book summarizing our research. We plan to present the book as an album showcasing the crafted items, scanned and displayed with great respect and care, along with the many interviews we have collected. We want to document this parallel history, showing what happens behind the scenes. In a war filled with tragedies, it is easy to overlook and forget the stories of daily routine work. Yet, creating something new is a powerful, albeit almost invisible, form of protest against destruction and loss.

It is very important for us to tell the stories of routine resistance and support—to research, collect, and convey them without losing their essence, whether in a net, a bag, a sling, a sack, a bottle, a pot, a box, a container or sock.
