Approximately 20% of Ukraine's territory is currently under occupation by the Russian Federation. Southern regions have been severely affected due to the detonation of the Kakhovka Dam, leading to widespread flooding. Numerous communities, each with populations in need of assistance, are struggling to cope with the crisis. State authorities and volunteers are overwhelmed, making it imperative for local communities to take charge. Our primary objective is to document and share successful community-driven initiatives undertaken during the crisis caused by the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022. Specifically, the project aims to narrate the story of evacuating over 16,000 residents from the occupied territories of the Luhansk and Kharkiv regions through the Pechenihy Dam during the summer of 2022.
The project will meticulously capture this story with detailed accounts of the events, profiles of the heroes involved, the unfolding narrative, and visual representations through evacuation maps.
