Forced Migration of the Population of Kherson Region due to the Russian-Ukrainian War

The research considers the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, which led to an active phase of migration from the war zone. Over 5.5 million people have left Ukraine, and 7.5 million are internally displaced. The Kherson region was in the most challenging situation, as it was completely occupied by Russian forces, and there was no official green corridor for the evacuation of civilians until the de-occupation of the right bank of the region. Most internally displaced persons settled in Ukrainian-controlled territory, but about one-third went abroad. The purpose of the study is to examine the ways and means of evacuation for the inhabitants of the occupied Kherson region, the geography of the location of migrants, and the specifics of the choice of regions and countries for migration. Special attention in the research is paid to migration from the city of Kherson.
