The Solidarity Screenings program is a series of video works from Ukraine offering raw and immediate insights into the filmmakers’ current practices under the terrible circumstances of war. It aims to provide an intimate portrayal of people caught amidst the war, occupation and forced migration. The works show how the lives of ordinary Ukrainians changed overnight, when millions of peaceful citizens became victims, spectators and participants of the full-scale warfare and ensuing humanitarian crisis, volunteer movements, migration and resistance. Made to preserve and develop the evidence, reflections and feelings of the people enduring this crisis, all of the video works have been created by visual artists based in Ukraine after the start of the Russian invasion.
The screening program will feature a series of recent documentary works by moving image artists based in Ukraine, among them Alisa Sizykh, Daria Molokoedova, Daryna Snizhko, Eugene Arlov, Liera Polianskova, Maria Matiashova, Taya Kabaeva and others. The program iscurated by Serge Klymko, founder of Emergency Support Initiative. Screenings are planned in Amsterdam, Vienna, Prague, Riga, Kyiv, Uzhgorod and Malmö.
