In one of the few bakeries in Kyiv, people with mental disabilities make bread. Apart from struggling with their own challenges, they are forced to live through the experience of war. The space in which they work becomes their safe haven where they can be who they are and find both support and understanding. Working together unites them and gives them faith and sense. Their daily work saves the locals on frontline territories who are under constant shelling by Russian forces from famine.
The short documentary film In 769 km —New York opens the door to the world of the employees of the Kyiv-based inclusive bakery GoodBread and the locals from regions in Ukraine who experience daily shelling. While they usually do not know each other, they are united by bread which becomes a symbolic guide on this journey from baking, packaging, to delivering to those who need it most.
