Vilcha: A Short History of Double Displacement

This project aims to document the experience of twice-forcibly displaced Ukrainian citizens. It is based on the case of the residents of Vilcha—a village in the Kharkiv region. Originally relocated from the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, its inhabitants faced forced displacement yet again due to the Russo-Ukrainian war and occupation by Russian troops. Through recording oral history interviews with these twice-displaced people, the project seeks to document and analyze the impact of displacements caused by man-made disasters on civilians, their survival strategies, and the implications of forced migration in the 21st century.
