GRANTEE
The Queer. Archive. War project focuses on documenting the life of the queer community in connection with the war in Ukraine and disseminating this knowledge both in Ukraine and abroad. The main themes we identified in our preliminary research include reconciling pacifist beliefs with the need to go to battle, the necessity of upholding the values of the queer movement, and the struggle for equality not only within one’s own country but also in the face of the homophobic agenda of the Russian Federation. It also involves a rethinking of one’s identity and the impact of visibility, the experiences of transgender people who have undergone or are in the process of transition while serving in the military, and the challenges of refugee adaptation abroad.
