GRANTEE
The aim of the project is to trace the processes of decolonization and derussification of Kharkiv’s cultural sphere amid the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. To achieve this goal, we plan to analyse changes in the city’s toponymic landscape, including the dismantling of monuments and memorial plates. One of the main research questions is to identify the historical myths chosen by the local government and civil society to remove/change the representation of the Russian imperial past and match its symbolic dimension to nation-building narratives in the urban spaces of Kharkiv between 2014 and 2022.
