The IWM was honored to host the Emma Goldman Awards 2025 ceremony. Since 2020, the FLAX Foundation has presented the Emma Goldman Awards and Emma Goldman Snowball Awards to talented and engaged scholars working on feminist and inequality issues in Europe.
Following introductory remarks by Misha Glenny, IWM Rector, and Mieke Verloo, IWM Non-Resident Permanent Fellow and Chair of the FLAX Board of Trustees, the evening featured two keynote addresses. Florian Duijsens presented his work titled Dorothy Thompson: It Can Happen Here. Dorothy Thompson was a pioneering US journalist in Europe of the 1920s–30s and the first to be expelled from Nazi Germany. Back in the US, she became a powerful voice against fascism, reaching millions through print and radio while tirelessly advocating for refugees. Afterwards, Marta Rawłuszko spoke on Feminist Futures, offering empirical insights into how feminist activists understand and envision the future.
