Fellowship Programs

The following programs award fellowships through open competition, for a duration of up to six months. For each program, applicants are selected by an independent jury of experts.

CEU Postdoctoral Fellowship A joint program with the Central European University, supporting doctoral students and post docs pursuing their research.
Digital Humanism Fellowship A program which explores the urgent intellectual challenges at the complex interplay of humans and machines.
Emma Goldman Fellowship Fellowships awarded to researchers with extraordinary expertise on, and engagement with, scholarship in the field of feminist and inequality issues.
Jan Patočka Fellowship Fostering research inspired by Jan Patočka’s work and legacy and committed to all fields of his intellectual endeavors.
Jerzy Giedroyc Fellowship Research of Giedroyc's legacy or Polish-Ukrainian, Polish-Belarusian, and Polish-Lithuanian relations and related issues of history, politics, and literature.
Józef Tischner Fellowship Open to Polish and Polish-American scholars from all academic disciplines in the humanities and social sciences.
Milena Jesenská Fellowship for Journalists This program offers European journalists time off from their professional duties in order to pursue in-depth research on a topic of their choice.
Non-Residential Fellowships for Scholars from Ukraine Providing one-time stipends to Ukrainian scholars, cultural figures, and public intellectuals.
OEAW Fellowship Six month fellowships awarded in cooperation with the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW).
Paul Celan Fellowship for Translators Supporting translations of canonical texts and contemporary key works in the humanities, social sciences and cultural studies.
Residential Fellowships for Scholars from Ukraine Two month fellowships at the IWM for outstanding Ukrainian Scholars
SEE Graduate Scholarships Supporting exceptionally talented South-East European students in need, who are pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree in Vienna.
Ukraine in European Dialogue Junior Fellowship Supporting the research of Ukrainian scholars, completing, or recently completed, doctoral studies in a Ukrainian institution of higher education.
