The main thesis of my project is that trust can be regarded as a form of altruism, and as such can be salutary in today’s disintegrated, post-truth societies. My aim is to develop an altruistic theory of trust, to consider its ethical and psychological foundations as well as its rational limits, to examine the relationship between trust and democracy, and to study the role of legal institutions in promoting social trust.
