In the 1970s / early 80s a movement of Russian nationalists, the so called “Russkaya Partiya”, claimed to reshape the internationalist USSR in a Russian-patriotic spirit. The seminar will address the reception of this movement in the intellectual circles of the late Soviet Union and discuss its impact on public opinion as well as the question if it still plays a role in official Russian politics today.
The project The Perils of Moralism: Russian Orthodoxy and Russian Politics is related to IWM’s research focus “Russia in Global Dialogue” and Kristina Stoeckl’s research project Religious Traditionalism and Politics.
