Although challenging, it remains necessary to produce critical and self-reflective scholarship on the work of scholars and activists who move in the same part of the political spectrum, even in times when they are exposed to severe—even life-threatening—oppression. That critical lens needs to be carefully constructed and well-argued in order not to fall into the trap of simply repeating the oppressor’s discourse, but instead offer the oppressed a more helpful and sustainable tool for self-reflection and increased societal impact.
