Nuclear energy is in global focus, experiencing a resurgence as a solution to the energy crisis. At the same time, the possibility of nuclear conflict, revived by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, brings Cold War nuclear anxieties back to the global stage. This project explores this contemporary nuclear renaissance by examining Serbia, a society that has been navigating the anxieties and fears of radioactivity caused by the use of depleted uranium during the 1999 NATO bombing, while simultaneously considering the use of nuclear energy as part of energy transition processes.
