Dexter Filkins

Dexter Filkins is writing a profile of Svetlana Tikhanovskaia, the Belarusian opposition leader, for The New Yorker. He has recently been to Belarus and Poland, and spent time with Tikhanovskaia in Lithuania and the United States. Writing about Tikhanovskaia, and also the country, he is interested in tracing the growth of the opposition to Alexander Lukashenko's rule, which culminated in the protests last year. Filkins is trying to figure out the movement's staying power, especially now that its leadership is outside the country.
