Despite living in Vienna during the Spanish flu, Milena Jesenská never mentions the epidemic in her texts. This strange absence inspired Kaprálová to consider Jesenská's work in relation to broader questions about journalistic ethics: How did "fake news" and conspiracy theories operate a century ago? What were the social implications of the Spanish flu? How can we compare these repercussions to those of Covid-19 today?
