This project explores the potential for a regionally-oriented comparative analysis of cities and urbanism by drawing on the links between post-socialism and postcolonialism and investigating the points of intersections between different scales of analysis. Rather than continuing to produce accounts of de-industrialization and de-Sovietization, the multiscalar “protractions“ of the city reaching beyond its administrative and wider political boundaries prompt us to investigate numerous ways in which global urbanization crystallizes in the most unexpected places.
