Eva Forgacs

My research will examine chapters of modernist art and culture in the frames of their specific political environment, in particular strategic misunderstandings, misinterpretations, or appropriations anchored in the reception/perception of the Russian painter K. S. Malevich in the 1920s and his rediscovery in the 1950s and 1980s, respectively. Background themes of the project include the relations of Russian, German, and Central European art and cultures and their political context.
