A contemporary traveler who leaves the familiar context of Western civilization and heads for the Far East cannot help feeling confused by what confronts him there. One of these perplexing phenomena is the way religions co-exist peacefully with secularity, which in turn does not confront them with the same rigorous stance it conventionally adopted towards religious beliefs in the western contexts. My project deals with the question why this co-existence is possible in the East and impossible in the West.
