My project is an attempt to construct a narrative of the implementation and development of Nazi anti-Slavic policy during World War II that considers National Socialist ideological and tactical concerns and the agency and variety of reaction of the Slavic populations on which these policies were implemented. The focus is on the residents of the city of Warsaw, Christian and Jewish, in interaction with the Nazi civilian administration. The goal is to capture the dialogic nature of policy development in a situation in which there was a wide space for interpretation of long- and short-term goals and individual initiative on both the German and Polish sides.
