Rip It Up and Start Again: Postpunk 1978-1984 by Simon Reynolds is seminal cultural history of post-punk, one of the last true musical innovations of 20th century, as Reynolds argues. Post-punk was relentlessly future-oriented, musicians were obsessed with pushing things forward, not with digging out cultural heritage, remixing it and mashing it up, which seems to be dominant mode of cultural production nowadays. His persuasive argument for more modernism in culture, which he understands as faith in future, is one reason to translate this book in Polish. The other one is that his brand of critical analysis of pop-culture is rarely seen in Poland, I hope that this book will change that.
