Contemporary normative moral theory is on “stand-by”. It is distrustful of utilitarianism or Kantian deontology. Virtue ethics is questioned because of the unsolved relation between its naturalism and contemporary evolutionary biology. My project seeks to offer a new account of Aristotle’s ethical naturalism based on an examination of the so-called ergon argument. I will argue that Aristotle’s own version of naturalism offers an interesting option for contemporary moral theory.
