Jakub Majmurek

The forthcoming book Cine-art aims to name, define and describe a new genre of Polish cinema: feature movies made for theatrical release, directed by visual artists who decided to exchange the space of the art gallery for that of the cinema, bringing to the latter their experience, strategies and aesthetics stemming from the art world. My contribution analyzes the boundary between cinema and visual art in Polish and international cinema in the last two decades, focusing on visual artists trying to make feature movies, such as Steve McQueen, Philippe Grandrieux, Piotr Uklański, and Wilhelm Sasnal. I will also work on the edition of the interview transcripts.
