Jeffrey Herf was a Visiting Fellow from May to July 1991. He gave three lectures at the Institute and worked on: "How Democracy Survived: Political Culture, Power Politics, and the Nachrüstungskrise in West Germany;" "Technological Pessimism as Apologetics and Amnesia in West Germany after 1945" and "Ambivalent Memories: 'Munich,' Auschwitz,' and the Nachrüstungskrise in West Germany."
