Two recent waves of protests against attempts to restrict Poland’s abortion law were hailed as an exemplary response to antifeminist right-wing populism rising all over the world and a breakthrough in the Polish women’s movement. How do the Black Protests and the Women’s Strikes change Polish feminism? To what extent do they reproduce the story of postfeminism before feminism, meaning a series of narratives prevailing in the post-transition public debate regarding Polish history, gender contract, and women’s identities? Provincializing the category of postfeminism, Joanna Sieracka analyzes cultural change in terms of a dialectic of continuity and break.
