This project asks: Are big-league democracies like the United States, Britain, India and South Africa sliding towards a precipice? Or is talk of the decline of democracy mere hyperbole? The project answers: A tutored sense of history shows that while this period represents the deepest crisis since the 1930s, it is no replay of that dark moment. Our times are hardly less tumultuous or momentous. Powerful economic and geo-political forces are again rising against democracy; yet, our times are doubly troubling exactly because they are different.
