In 2015, 8722 unaccompanied children claimed asylum in Austria. Most are now adults with their asylum claims still unresolved. They remain a highly vulnerable—and risky—group. I want to know: what do ‘they’ make of ‘us’? What does integration—if anything—mean to them and how are they dealing with the pressure to adapt to European culture? And where do we go from here?
