My project intends to concentrate on how memories of World War II have been constructed by historians in Germany and Italy also through the politics of archive conservation. The aim is to examine the discourses in which the memory of the recent past was defined, imagined, created, and contested by historians. A particular emphasis during my stay in Vienna will be directed towards understanding the politics of the conservation of memories and of sources in the border areas.
