»Do women in Slovenia feel relieved, now that you live in democracy and since Slovenia has become a EU-member?« This cliché question most often doesn't even sound like a question, but a solid fact. My answer: Slovene women have lost much in a democracy, and they lost it before they even noticed. Before 1990, the struggle for equality in Western societies seemed to us an unnecessary affair. But today we're hearing from our friends in Western Europe how hard it is to fight for equality. These women are breaking those same taboos that we're barely beginning to know. We'll need a very long time to go back to reclaiming positions that our mothers and many among us once already had.
