Oksana Yurkova

Modern demographers and historians know almost nothing about the Ukrainian demographer Galina Selegen (1899–1981), one of the leading employees of the Central Statistical Office of the Ukrainian SSR in the 1920s and 30s, who participated in the preparation of all interwar population censuses in Ukraine. The aim of this project is to reconstruct her life and compile her bibliography. Oksana Yurkova plans to pay special attention to Selegen’s works on the assessment of excess mortality in Ukraine during the Holodomor, written during her emigration in the 1940s and 50s.
