My dissertation is a study of Christian spiritual resistance from the beginning of the Second World War to the end of the Algerian War. I examine how “résistance spirituelle” emerged from the Second World War as an important force in the postwar political constellation of France, and the ways in which the elaboration of a theology of resistance facilitated left-wing Christian contestation of the French state over issues of human rights in the context of decolonization.
