Both Karl Jaspers and Ladislav Hejdánek reflect substantially on the nature of objectifying thinking in the European tradition. Although mutually close, their positions differ in their answer to the question of the possibility of non-objectifying thinking (for Hejdánek it is possible, for Jaspers not). This project compares both attitudes critically and thereby provides a survey that has hitherto not been made. The leading thought is that what Jaspers regards as necessary traits of thinking can prove to be a changeable disposition.
