The research aims at the historical contextualization of EuroMaidan in terms of the modern European values it revealed and articulated. The focal point is the idea of Europe throughout the epoch of modernity, both in the ‘heartlands’ and the ‘periphery’. Discovering a wide spectrum of implications, from ‘Europe-as-given’ to ‘the stolen West’, or ‘Europe as the object of desire’, the study represents the Ukrainian vision of ‘Europeanness’ as a noteworthy contribution against the contemporary EU crisis.
