The project deals with transformation of historical memory in Ukraine since the collapse of communism. In a contrast to other similar projects, it shifts the focus from sharp political and public debates on history- which have been sufficiently analyzed – to their social perceptions that are largely underestimated and characterized by polyvalence, Such a shift helps to reveal the ways a divided society could cope with its traumatic memories and suggests interesting comparisons and generalizations.
