The research project focuses on crime and compensation in North Africa with data from field research in Algeria, Morocco and Sudan gathered between 2008 and 2016. Compensation has been a central policy of Algerian and Moroccan national reconciliation and of Sudanese peace processes. Yet the topic has not been taken sufficiently into account in recent research. The research aims to shed light on the multiple meanings, issues and objectives of various reconciliation practices in North Africa.
