Recognizing that the need to chronicle the war and its impact on Ukrainian society is as strong as ever, and acknowledging the invaluable and innovative work of Ukrainians who are doing precisely this, the IWM is very glad to announce that it will be continuing Documenting Ukraine.

With over 450 projects supported since its launch in Spring 2022, the IWM’s Documenting Ukraine program has enabled Ukrainian professionals to record and reflect on the Russo-Ukrainian War. The IWM is committed to continuing its efforts, with the next application cycle beginning in June 2025. We welcome Ukrainian scholars, journalists, writers, artists, filmmakers and documentarians to apply for a one-time grant of 5,000 EUR to support their work preserving experiences of the full-scale Russo-Ukrainian War or providing artistic and intellectual reflection on these events.

The task of chronicling and understanding the Russo-Ukrainian War is one that requires the efforts of many institutions. At the same time that Documenting Ukraine will continue at the IWM, we also want to highlight a new institution based in Lviv, INDEX: Institute for Documentation and Exchange. The IWM was pleased to be able to contribute to the initial creation of INDEX, which now continues its life as a fully independent institution. We congratulate our colleagues on establishing INDEX and look forward to watching the institution develop and continue its important work.
