The IWM is delighted to host the Emma Goldman Awards 2025 ceremony. The awards are presented annually by the FLAX Foundation to outstanding scholars in the field of gender studies, feminism, and inequality research. On the occasion of the fifth anniversary, the IWM and the FLAX also offer a special workshop with former award winners.
The fifth Emma Goldman Awards will be presented on 13 March in the IWM Library. Following introductory remarks by Misha Glenny, IWM Rector, and Mieke Verloo, IWM Non-Resident Permanent Fellow and Chair of the FLAX Board of Trustees, the evening will feature two keynote addresses:
Marta Rawłuszko will speak on Feminist Futures, offering empirical insights into how feminist activists understand and envision the future.
Florian Duijsens will present his work entitled Dorothy Thompson: It Can Happen Here. Dorothy Thompson was a pioneering US journalist in Europe of the 1920s–30s and the first to be expelled from Nazi Germany. Back in the US, she became a powerful voice against fascism, reaching millions through print and radio while tirelessly advocating for refugees.
The award ceremony is by invitation only. However, a recording of the event will be made available on our YouTube channel afterwards.
You can find the last award ceremony with interventions by Stefanie Boulila and Susan Zimmermann on our YouTube channel:
In addition, the full-day workshop Imagine Feminist Futures will take place on 14 March. To mark the fifth anniversary of the Emma Goldman Awards, former winners join forces with interested activists and researchers to share inspiring insights, build lasting alliances, and imagine fresh futures.
You can access further information on the workshop and the registration link here.
