Two-Month Fellowships for Scholars from Ukraine

The IWM is offering 18 new two-month fellowships for outstanding Ukrainian scholars, funded by the City of Vienna.

Eligibility

Fellowships are open to doctoral students as well as established scholars in the humanities and social sciences. Candidates must currently be affiliated with a Ukrainian university or research institution or have received at least one of their academic credentials from one.

Strong preference will be given to candidates who are able to take up the fellowship in July and August 2022.

Preference will be given to candidates who are already located in Vienna.

Conditions

Selected fellows will be invited to spend two months at the IWM between May and December 2022 (preferably July-August).

Visiting Fellows will receive a stipend of EUR 2,500 per month to cover accommodation, living expenses, health insurance and any incidentals related to their stay in Vienna.

In addition, the IWM provides her/him with office space including access to internet, in-house research and administrative facilities as well as an in-house lunch and other services free of charge.

Visiting Fellows must spend the duration of their fellowship in Vienna.

Application

Applications must be submitted via the IWM applications platform, including the following documents:

  • a letter of motivation (max. 5,000 characters incl. spaces) that includes a description of the candidate’s proposed research project at the IWM and their current personal situation
  • a curriculum vitae
  • a list of publications

All materials should be in English.

Applications must be submitted by 22 May 2022.

Selection

Finalists will be selected by a jury of experts. Applicants are notified of the jury decision in due time. The jury is not required to publicly justify its decisions, nor to provide applicants individual feedback on their applications.
