Few today would deny the connection between our thinking about the political world and the natural. Our attitudes to the one influence our approach to the other and vice versa. I want to attempt to conceptualize this relation on the level of philosophical analysis through a study of these themes in Plato, whose dialogues suggest an understanding of this mutual interaction without artificially separating or subsuming either term under the other. Ultimately I wish to explore, however provisionally, how this relation bears on our understanding of the human being as standing at the intersection of the natural and the political.
