My project deals with the concept of political theology in 20th-century Protestant theology in general and in Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s thought in particular. Above all, I am concerned with its function of turning religion into a matter of public discourse, which requires us to view reality and the Reign of God from a critical perspective. Accordingly, I shall seek to understand Bonhoeffer’s ideas not only as a theologian’s writings about revelation but also in terms of their significance for the philosophy of politics and the history of ideas.
