My project investigates the AKP-era neoliberalization of Turkey as manifest in its relations with the de facto Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and shows that this relationship of dependency is most salient in Turkey’s infrastructural policies relating to water transfers to north Cyprus. Through an ethnographic study, I scrutinize the nexus of patronage, hydroscales, and neoliberal authoritarianism, and focus on an under-sea pipeline transferring water to northern territories of Cyprus.
