It was something of a miracle that Józef Zelkowicz’s writings from the Łódź Ghetto were not destroyed. Translating his work will not only help us to better understand the history of the Łódź ghetto in its sociological, psychological and factual dimensions, but will also provide Polish readers with a vivid story of great literary value about the life of a community in extreme situations which, unfortunately, tragically reoccur in the history of Europe and the world up to the present day.
