Published sixteen years ago as the first anthropology work on the Eastern European Roma, The Time of the Gypsies has become in the meantime a classic text in the field of social sciences in general and Romani Studies in particular. Given the recent debates stirred by Eastern Roma migration to Western Europe, the relevance of a Romanian translation of this book goes beyond the strict scope of Eastern Europe or academic research.
